updateliness
It's been a pretty mad week. I've been sleeping on a mattress on the floor surrounded by boxes and piles of clothes, getting used to the new sounds (construction of tramlines at 4am), the new smells (um, pee, anyone?) and the new flavours of having the market within walking distance. I still feel like I'm on school camp, all ready for pranks and hijinks and iniquitous acts. Thus far, my little office-grotto has been adorned with lashings of green paint, swathes of fabric pinned up on the walls, a curtain rail for the hanging of my finery, and my most prized possessions (books, sewing machine, various photos, boxes of lace, ribbon and buttons). It's beginning to feel like a place I like to hang out in, if not completely home yet.

So far we have climbed up to the roof, 10 floors up, and explored the penthouse suite of our office block, dominated the rooftop and the pump room and asserted our sovereignty over the Adelaide skyline. I am so keen to get started on some sewing again, but at the moment my room is too disorganised and I have too much other stuff to think about. Half my stuff is still at my dad's place, along with my more specialised sewing accoutrements. Also, not having readily available internet cuts me off from so much inspiration. Okay, an angry rabble of footy fans is approaching down the mall, so I am going to beat a hasty retreat from...

....

wow. it's a crowd of emos dressed as zombies, all chanting 'Jesus was a Zombie'. Mine is not to reason why. I'm going home, folks.

i've got a new apartment, baby!

Hey look, it's our new place. We got it!

How do you move an entire life's worth of stuff out of one place and into one that is a quarter the size? I am having conniptions.

Yay or Nay?
Yay

- rain. Right now I'm drinking a cup of tea, futzing about on the net and listening to raindrops on the roof. On second thought, all this can be better accomplished in bed...

- porridge. Combine with the above pleasures and life is good!

-

- these stockings:

from sockdreams.com. Also, thigh-high ribbed socks. I need some.

- while I'm having consumerist daydreams, these shoes:

- finishing one cup of tea and then making another. And then blogging about it.

Nay!

- making a pair of pyjama pants, then accidentally sewing two of the same leg. And I can't even cut them apart because I did a french seam and a) I can't be bothered and b) I would lose a lot of the seam allowance. So one leg is finished really nicely inside, and the other is not. Gah. I should know by now not to sew when I'm frustrated, it only bodes ill.

- still not knowing what the heck is going on with the apartment. I give up.

- random blog posts with little to no nutritional value.

A Girly Jaunt

Ah, what a leisurely life we do lead. A short jaunt to the fabric store turned into a day-long trip involving the imbibing of fine coffees, the investigation of various trendy vintage stores and the purchasing of incidental cute attire. Bugs found a polka-dotted 80's dress just begging to be revamped into a cute (and not 80's) skirt/top combination, and I bought a plaid pencil skirt and a mint green shirt with pintucks in the front, which is just what the jauntily-dressed lady adventurer is wearing this season. All these for $5 each at Clubhouse Lane Boutique, Queen Street.

A perfect Adelaide winter day - the sun was not out to maim us and there was a slight chill in the air that made hot soup taste particularly fine. We both looked mighty cute - if I do say so myself - and there was much inspiration to be had in the way of crafty pursuits. Later, a plate of steamed dumplings and a bowl of pho at the Market hit the spot just right. Oh, and lest I forget, a superlative coconut custard bun from Nana Hot Bake - a squishy glutinous confection with electric green innards, divine to munch on though it left the roof of my mouth numb for some reason!

The world is filled with adorableness at the moment - so much inspiration in the way of cute things to make, cute foods to eat (see the bentoboxes community on Flickr) and cute housewares to plan (unsubtle hints to the apartment gods - please put us out of our misery and let us know whether we got the place or not!). I am feeling the intense need to sew a pair of blue drill trousers for exploratory purposes, wide legged, sturdy and workmanlike but of course with a well-fitting posterior! Just right for the prospecting of drains and midnight sneaking. Lock-pick compartment optional.

wardobe_remix

It seems every city on the planet has a street style website except for Adelaide! I agree we might be at the ass-end of everywhere, but that doesn't mean we don't have heaps good styles. We should represent! Ok, so in summer my inclination to be fancy goes out the window, but now that it's finally cool enough to wear more than a towel I intend to put in a bit more effort. The wardrobe_remix community on Flickr is a constantly updated source of international swank, so here's my contribution.

dirndl dress - $2 from Irving Baby sales maybe 5 years ago
red patent shoes - myers
knitting needles in my hair!

I'd love to start up an Adelaide street style blog, but I think I'm too afraid to ask random people if I can take their photo. I'm a wuss!

cohabitation

So within the space of about 24 hours I have gone from being a blissfully unemployed, blithely unconcerned lady of leisure to someone who might actually be moving out of home in the very near future. The dream of a warehouse has been circulating, a place where we can dance and sleep and play copious amounts of Toejam&Earl without all the staid and fusty connotations of a 'proper' abode. Well, this ain't a warehouse, but it's an old converted office complete with cubicle toilets and when you step out the door you practically fall into Hindley Street. It's zoned for commercial so we can make as much noise as we want, and it has an enormous linoleum floor which is perfect for impromptu dancing. Also, an honest-to-goodness fire escape staircase up the side which is going to let us climb onto the roof six floors up.

Please please please by all the gods and their little godlings, let us get this place! Our application goes in tomoz.

moustache ride!

Sometimes, all you can do is stick on some paper facial hair and brandish your phatty lootz.
